Our Home was originally built for the Nuns of the Dominican Order in the grounds of their Convent and over the years it achieved an enviable reputation for care and commitment. In 1994 the home was acquired by St Dominics Residential Home Limited which has maintained the philosophy standards and traditions and will continue to do so.
Jean Dolmor, Registered Nurse, Registered Manager Award and Teaching & Assessing 998 Qualification, has many years of clinical experience within the NHS and private sector and experience within the elderly care sector and leads our experienced team, a number of whom have been with us for many years. The majority of staff already hold or are working towards their NVQ qualifications.
Location
St Dominics nestles back from London Road and is located in the peaceful Essex village of Kelvedon.
We are within easy reach of the main line railway station, local bus services and the A12 road link (Chelmsford / Witham / Colchester) and are adjacent to the local Catholic Church. The Churches of other denominations, the Angel Inn and village shops are all within easy walking distance.
Accommodation
We have superbly furnished accommodation with 38 single bedrooms, most of which have en suite facilities. Virtually all the bedrooms overlook the attractive gardens, some on the ground floor with patio door access. There is a passenger lift servicing the first floor. The Home’s four bathrooms each have specialist baths and we have recently fitted a wet floor shower room, all of the very latest design.
Grounds
St Dominics is set in approximately one acre of landscaped gardens with a backcloth of mature trees and overlooks fields. There are two Garden Houses and a raised ornamental fish pond which is greatly enjoyed by residents during the summer.
Facilities
For the convenience and enjoyment of our residents we have a large and very comfortable lounge, a magnificent conservatory with access to the gardens, a smaller quiet lounge and a spacious dining room. We also have a hairdressing salon and a separate smoking room.
Catering
Residents are served with early morning tea or coffee, followed by breakfast (if preferred, in the privacy of their own room). The main meal is served in the Dining Room at midday where there is a choice from our menu which is changed regularly.
We use fresh produce prepared and cooked in our own kitchens and specialist diets are also catered for. Supper is also served in the Dining Room. Morning coffee and afternoon tea (with biscuits and homemade cakes) are served daily. Family and guests are welcome to join residents for a meal (prior notice would be appreciated).
