My mother is a resident in St Dominics Residential Home (London Road, KELVEDON, Essex). It has exceeded all our expectations and is quite simply marvelous. The staff are loving and caring towards the residents, and nothing is too much trouble for them. Watching the staff with residents; it is as though the residents are being looked after by members of their family. The staff are respectful and caring. The home is bright and cheerful and has glorious gardens. Every month the residents can go on an outing (at no extra charge) for instance to a local garden centre for afternoon tea. Most weeks there is an outside entertainer (a different one each time) and there are activities every day. This year on Burns Day the haggis was piped in by a bagpipe player and there was Scottish music and songs. They have regular parties. Last year they held an Olympics event which included wheelchair races, three legged races and wellie throwing at the manager! The food is excellent, all home cooked, and family members and friends are always welcome to eat with the residents (again at no extra cost). The manager, Jean, has high standards and can always rely on the owner for support, whether it be to buy new equipment or extra staff. There is a wonderful sense of community in the home, which feels like one extended family.

Jennifer Wheldon from Essex  says

All who come to visit my husband say it is the best Care Home they have visited. Staff are highly trained, and kindness, patience and affection are shown to all Residents. Weekdays someone is there all day to arrange games, quizzes, outings, activities and entertainments. It is a HAPPY place, with LAUGHTER the norm.

Dear Nicole, Vanessa, and all at St Dominic's

Thank you so much for the magnificent donation of £150 for our Thank you for the Music entertainment last Saturday.  Please pass on our gratitude to all the residents, their families, staff and Mr Banning for their generosity.  We really will be able to make a wonderful contribution to our  cancer charities this year and this is very much appreciated.

Abba and the Carpenters were making their music forty years ago, when many of your residents would have been in their forties or fifties and their children playing the music on the' trannies 'and record players of the time.  I really believe that this music is the modern day equivalent to the war time Gracie Fields and Vera Lynn and will be the 'Sing-a-long' music of the future.  It is such lovely, happy music that lifts the spirits  of all who hear it.

We are so glad that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves so much, and really entered into the spirit of the event.  This is that 'special something' that I believe makes St. Dominic's unique within my experience of  the care industry.  You all put so much love and energy into the well-being of your residents and this is paid back by them a hundred fold.  We have sung at several residential homes over the years and never found one with so much verve and life within it- and this is testament to the dedication of the staff and the very ethos of your establishment.  It is a real pleasure to visit you all, and I, especially am delighted to visit and spend time with you all on a regular basis.  You have become real friends.

with thanks again,

Penny
